PTA doesn’t want Malick students

Saturday, October 6 2012

THE Parent/Teachers Association (PTA) of the Aranjuez North Secondary are not in favour of students from Malick Secondary being accommodated on their compound. On Monday, the Ministry of Education assured Malick students, whose school has not opened for the term after a fire in August, will occupy the older building in Aranjuez from Monday until repairs at the school are complete.

PTA president Glenn Williams said the executive of the PTA met on Thursday and decided that they were not in favour of the Malick students using the school.

He said he understands the plight of Malick students but their relocation will halt upcoming works for the continued development at the school.

Aranjuez North Secondary was given a new building earlier this year after construction began in 2008. The older building which the Malick students will occupy was earmarked to be demolished so the third phase of construction could begin this year.

The third phase will include a multipurpose hall, farm building and play area with pavilion

“Parts of the old building they will occupy, the students still use because the third phase of construction was yet to start.

“The industrial arts department is there, then we have the agriculture department.

“There is also no proper facilities for Physical Education so, students utilise that area as well. What is going to happen when those students come over, how is that going to work,” he said.

Williams said the ministry never contacted the PTA to notify them that this relocation was taking place. “We only heard it through the media so we really don’t know what is going to happen come Monday. Right now we are not sure if they are still coming, but if they do, the PTA will have to hold an emergency meeting to decide what will be the next move,” he said.
