Monia Arjoon...
BIRTHDAY celebrations for a grandmother had to be cancelled when she died instantly in a vehicular accident on Saturday evening.
Monia “ Tara” Arjoon would have celebrated her 57th birthday tomorrow. Instead an autopsy of her body is expected to be performed at the San Fernando General Hospital on that day.
A police report stated Arjoon, a housewife and gardener, was a front seat passenger in a blue 120 Y car when it collided with a parked vehicle along the Guaracara/ Tabaquite Road, Ben Lomond, Williamsville. The driver, her common-law-husband ,Russell Jahorie, sustained injuries to the chest and was at hospital up to late yesterday.
Arjoon, a mother of two and grandmother of one, lived at Fourth Street, Harmony Hall in Gasparillo with Jahorie and their 16-year-old daughter Crystal Jahorie.
Crystal recalled her parents and family friend, Herzel Mohan, were in the car on their way home from Piparo when the accident occurred. She witnessed the accident as she was in another car driven by a male friend.
Shaking her head, Crystal said her father attempted to overtake the car she was in when another car drove into his path. He swerved to avoid a collision and instead crashed into the parked car, she added. The driver of the car he tried to avoid sped off.
“Mom was in the front seat with her seatbelt on. She was crushed to death and died instantly. We had just left the home of her sister, Sunia Brandy, in Piparo. Earlier this week I gave her a cellphone as an early present for her birthday. I was planning to give her a gold chain with the initial “M” as another gift,” Crystal added.
