A MAN has been detained following an early morning shooting in Gasparillo yesterday which left a businessman injured. Police last night continued the search for a second man in connection with the incident.

Hardware dealer Dinesh Ramnarine, 59, of Bonne Aventure Road, Gasparillo, remains warded in a stable condition at San Fernando General Hospital after being shot once in his neck, police said. Five hours after the shooting incident, police acting on information, went to a house in Gasparillo and arrested one suspect. The search is on for a second man who officers believe can further assist them with their investigations.

According to a police report at about 4.30 am yesterday, Ramnarine who operates his business place downstairs his home responded to someone who called him out by name. Police said Ramnarine went downstairs where he was confronted by two men wearing masks, one of whom shot him in his neck.

The men, police said then made good their escape through some bushes and disappeared.

It is believed that the men then boarded a waiting vehicle.

The scene was visited by a Snr Supt Cecil Santana and Supt Huggins along with officers of the Southern Division Task Force, San Fernando CID and Gasparillo Police Station. Cpl Ifill of Gasparillo Police Station is investigating.
