ONE of the master of ceremonies at Friday’s rally of the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) issued a public apology for a statement he made at the rally.

The statement in question was when he said the acronym PNM stood for “punish n*****s more”.

The MC, who party officials referred to only as “Wiggie”, had made the remark onstage in front of the crowd gathered at Old Market Square, Scarborough. At the time, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was not present.

Later, after the Prime Minister had arrived and addressed the crowd, the MC returned to the stage and apologised saying that he had not been directed to make any remarks by any member of the TOP and apologised. He said people made mistakes, but it was in the nature of TOP people to apologise.

“I apologise and as TOP people I hope you accept my apology,” he said.

Friday’s rally had the atmosphere of a concert, with performers such as Sizzla Kalonji — who serenaded Persad-Bissessar and sent the crowd into a frenzy.
