TTMA confident of new Head of StateSaturday, February 16 2013
The Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA) is confident of President-elect Anthony Carmona’s ability to uphold this democratic tradition, and seek the interests of all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
In a statement yesterday, the TTMA congratulated Carmona on his election as President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and said it was heartened that the process had the support of the two major political parties in the country, allowing for a smooth transition.
The association said that the former High Court judge was an excellent choice to serve as this country’s Head of State given his distinguished legal career. They said he possessed significant knowledge and expertise, which will allow for efficient and effective execution of his duties in this very important post.
Also extending congratulations to Carmona was businessman Balliram Maharaj. In a statement he said it augurs well for the youth of this country to see a youthful President. He said the President-elect’s wife Reema will set an example for all other women, particularly young women to follow as she displays a good role model for all women and children.
Maharaj said the unanimous support and enthusiasm demonstrated by all sides of our political, religious and other divides show the high esteem by which this humble gentleman is held by the society at large.
He noted Carmona has a lot going for him given his involvement in culture, his willingness to help people, his firm and fair hand in his legal profession and his ability to listen which would have been enhanced by his being a judge,
Maharaj reminded the children of the nation that “anyone can reach the highest position in this country no matter what town, village or island you belong to, be it Palo Seco, Rio Claro, Talparo Mundo Nuevo or Tobago. It is just hard work, honesty, devotion, dignity and patience.”
