Desalcott improves

Tuesday, February 19 2013

STATE-RUN utility the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has noted that Desalcott, which owns and operates the Desalination Plant, at Pt Lisas, reported gradual improvement in production at the plant from 20 mgd (million gallons per day) to 24 mgd. Desalcott’s normal daily water delivery to WASA is 30 mgd.

Though still below the plant’s average daily production, WASA in a release yesterday said, it is an indication that some progress is being made to correct problems with the filtration system at the facility.

As a result of the continuing challenges being faced with the operation of the Desalination Plant, the Authority has had to make adjustments to its distribution and system of scheduling in order to minimise the effects of the shortfall on customers.

However, areas at the extremity of the distribution system will still be affected by low water pressures and in some cases no water until the plant resumes full production.

Areas affected include: Claxton Bay, Esperance, Macaulay, Debe, Caratal, Penal, Hermitage, Woodland, Soledad, South Oropouche, Union Road, Rousillac, San Fernando proper and environs, La Brea, Gulf View, Sobo Village, Duncan Village, Vance River, Pleasantville, Vessigny, Union Hall, Avocat, La Romaine, Fyzabad, Palmiste, Siparia, Sunkist, Quarry Village, Phillipine, Santa Flora and Palo Seco

A limited truck-borne water delivery service will be made available. For further information, customers are encouraged to contact WASA’s Customer Service Bureau toll free at 800 4420/26.
