A RECOMMENDATION has been made for air condition units to be installed at the Springvale Hindu Primary School in Claxton Bay in light of smoke problems which have been affecting students and staff at the school.

The call was made by the president of the National Primary Schools Principals Association, Lynley Doodhai yesterday. Doodhai said the recommendation came out during discussions with officials at the school.

The burning of rubbish at the Forres Park Landfill has resulted in thick plumes of smoke blanketing the surrounding area and causing problems for students and residents. Some of the parents who live near to the school said on seeing the clouds of thick smoke they returned to collect their children yesterday.

Many students, Newsday was told, have complained of sore throats, burning eyes and breathing problems. A standard two student who suffers with asthma had to be rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital after she complained of breathing problems.
