POLICE yesterday seized $4.7 million in marijuana in an exercise which also led to the arrest of two men and seizure of a US Military-issued bullet-proof jacket. The raid took place in the Cunaripo forest.

Police reported, at about 11.30 am, police and officers from the Eastern Division Task Force journeyed two miles into the forests off Sankar Trace when two men were found filling compressed marijuana into crocus bags.

Facing policemen, K9 dogs and guns pointed at them, the two marijuana cultivators, aged 21 and 24 from Cunaripo, surrendered without a fight.

Twenty-four crocus bags, with over 1,000 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated local street value of $4.7 million were seized along with US Military-issued bullet-proof vest.

The men were taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station where they were interrogated. They are to be charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and are expected to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate on Monday.

The exercise was led by Snr Supt Dianand Naipaul and included ASP Odette Lewis, ASP John Trim, Insp Kennedy Deosaran, Sgt Dyal Ramlakhan, Sgt Darren Baptiste, Cpl Nicholas Vialva and Constables Singh, Watson, Mootoo, Nanhoo, Manna, Ottley, Pope, Nanan, Solozano, Glasglow, D’Abreau, Hosein, Baptiste, Williams, Blake, Emmanuel, Torreys and WPC Charles.
