Two more homicides were recorded in the space of 12 hours, officially pushing the murder toll to 88 according to Sunday Newsday’s statistics.

The latest murder occurred yesterday morning at about 2am, when officers of the St Joseph Police Station responded to a report of several loud explosions heard at Burnham Trace, off Riverside Road, Curepe. Upon their arrival, the officers observed the body of a man lying in a pool of blood at the side of the road. The victim had several gunshot wounds to his upper chest and head. The patrol called in the homicide, and a party of officers from the St Joseph CID, the Northern Division Task Force, and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, visited the scene.

The area was cordoned off, and Crime Scene Investigators searched for clues to assist them in their enquiries.

The body was then viewed by a District Medical Officer and ordered to be removed. However, up to press time yesterday, the body had yet to be identified. The victim was described as being about 5ft tall and was clad in a black jersey, and brown three quarter pants. He appeared to be in his late twenties. Anyone with information which could lead to the identification of the deceased man is asked to contact the St Joseph Police, or the Homicide Bureau.

Investigations are continuing.

About 11 hours earlier, 31-year-old Garnet Edwards of Malabar Extension Road, Malabar, was killed. Police reported that at about 3:15 pm on Friday, Edwards was at his home when he was confronted by two men who had broken into the premises. The men, armed with firearms, confronted the 31-year-old man, following which loud explosions were heard.

After a short while, concerned persons investigated the sound of the noise and Edwards’ body was found lying on the floor of his bedroom with multiple guns shot wounds.

His house was also said to be ransacked.

Officers from the Homicide Bureau and Malabar Police Post responded and are continuing investigations.
