Truck driver, Shankar “Rakki Boy” Ramnarace, lost his life while doing repairs under his truck in Penal, on Sunday, when the vehicle fell on him, dragging him a few feet away.
A police report stated that shortly after midday, Shankar, 34, of Ramnarace Avenue, Batchyia Village, was working on his truck when his screams alerted neighbours who went to his aid.
They found Shankar pinned under the vehicle and took him to San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) where he died.
Speaking at the family’s home yesterday, Shankar’s wife Lystra, 26, told Newsday that minutes before the incident, he gave her two tablets because she was feeling ill.
The young widow added she went to take a nap and was awakened to be told the tragic news.
“I was not well. He gave me the pills and told me to rest and promised to be back in 15 minutes to check on me. It is the neighbours who heard him scream out,” she said
Lystra said she was told the jack, a mechanical device used for lifting, slipped from under the truck and pinned Shankar. The truck rolled, dragging him, before it stopped in a ditch, Lystra said.
She said when she went to see him, there was blood all over his body and he was still alive, but later died.
Lystra said her husband always did repairs on his truck.
“He was employed with Property Maintenance Limited. He has been doing his own mechani
My husband was a very nice person, very talkative,” Lystra said.
She said fire and police officers responded promptly.
An autopsy is expected to be performed today at the mortuary of SFGH and investigations are continuing.
