Hilton Sandy, Secretary of the Division of Infrastructure and Public Utilities in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) is reported to be in critical but stable condition at the Scarborough General Hospital after he suffered a stroke early yesterday morning. Sandy, who was at home at the time, complained of feeling unwell. He was later rushed to hospital for tests. He was reported to be in an unconscious state as he was unresponsive when taken to the hospital.

Sandy is the area representative for the Belle Garden/Roxborough/Delaford district and is a long-serving member of the Assembly.

He was severely criticised during campaign leading up to the last THA elections in January over his now infamous “Calcutta Ship” statements.

Following the PNM victory in the THA elections, Sandy, who then Deputy Chief Secretary, lost the position which was given to Tracy Davidson-Celestine.

A press release from the Division of Infrastructure yesterday said Sandy was getting the best possible care and that his condition was being closely monitored. The release added that the thoughts and prayers of THA Chief Secretary Orville London and the entire Executive Council were with Sandy and his family at this time.
