GOODBYE DAD: Kendell Bachan, 2nd from left, gazes at the body of his father Aaron Ryan Bachan during his funeral service yesterday at Belgroves Prayer...
A GRIEVING woman yesterday made a call for eyewitnesses to come forward with information that could assist police in solving the murder of her brother who was stabbed near his Picton Street, Diamond Village home.
Aaron Ryan Bachan, 37, was stabbed several times while driving his vehicle last Sunday morning.
Bachan was pronounced dead on arrival at San Fernando General Hospital. “I urge all of those who witnessed my brother’s murder to come forward please. Put yourselves in our position. What if he was your son,” Saran Bachan said.
She made this call while delivering the eulogy at her brother’s funeral at Belgroves Prayer Room, Coffee Street, San Fernando. Saran said anyone could be next to die in the village as the killers remain at large.
“Aaron always had to defend himself from false accusations and physical attempts on his life. All that glitters is not gold and our lives have been a roller coaster here in the village,” Saran said adding that despite all the hardships, her brother found strength to still treat people warmly.
She said her brother loved his children dearly. “He had a big heart and never liked to see anyone being taken advantage of,” Saran said.
Bishop George John told mourners that people are living in perilous times and there are a lot of “mad people” roaming about. “These are dangerous times we live in. Too many people are dying in violent, unnatural circumstances. No one knows who to trust. Man has become insensitive and heartless,” John said.
John said “now more than ever” there is a need for people to recommit to their religion and to pray. “We need God in our lives. People will laugh with you today and be against you tomorrow. Leave everything up to God. God is a God of justice,” he told mourners.
John also urged persons to refrain from “hiding behind materialism and power”. Among those attending the funeral service yesterday was Desiree Waddel whose twin daughters Khadijah and Khertima Taylor died four months ago in a vehicle accident. Bachan was later cremated at the Belgroves Crematorium. Police yesterday continued the search for Bachan’s killers. They are also searching for the persons who last weekend murdered Selwyn James Figaro in Point Fortin and who battered Gangapersad Harrypersad whose body was found in a pool of blood at a bus shed in Penal.
