TT, Jamaica talks begin
Tuesday, December 3 2013
Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran has begun discussions with his Jamaican counterpart Arnold J Nicholson on relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica in the context of the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Dookeran and a local delegation that includes representatives of the Immigration Division, Ministry of National Security and a CSME specialist research officer from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs arrived in Kingston, Jamaica, yesterday to attend the two-day meeting. Also on the delegation is TTís High Commissioner to Jamaica Dr Iva Gloudon. The meeting is being held at Nicholsonís invitation following the denial of 12 Jamaican nationals to enter Trinidad on November 21. TT has maintained the Jamaican nationals were sent back to their country for legitimate reasons, which included previously overstaying a visit, not having enough funds to sustain a holiday, or not having hosts meeting them. The denial of entry triggered a campaign in Jamaica calling for a boycott of Trinidadian goods. The meeting continues today.
