THE TRAFFIC flow in the city of San Fernando has been reversed, and once again motorists will be able to proceed in a northerly direction only on Penitence Street between St James Street and High Street (one way traffic), and in a southerly direction only on Mon Chagrin Street, between San Fernando Street and High Street (one way traffic).

The traffic change went into effect at midnight on Thursday, a release from the office of the Mayor of San Fernando, Kazim Hosein stated.

He promised that the revised traffic flow will “ease the chaos, traffic pile-up and chronic gridlock on the streets of San Fernando.”

No parking will be allowed on Penitence Street between High Street and St. James Street.

Yesterday morning, police, traffic wardens and officials from Traffic Management Branch of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure were present to ensure a smooth transition. The roadway has been clearly marked and no entry signs placed in the appropriate areas.

There will be town meetings to facilitate further consultation throughout the City where a comprehensive traffic management plan for San Fernando will be discussed, the release went on to stated.
