‘Glitch’ leads to non-payment of TSTT salaries

Saturday, January 25 2014

A TECHNICAL error was the reason why more than 2,000 employees of the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) did not receive their January salaries yesterday.

The workers along with their representing union, the Communication Workers’ Union staged a protest outside TSTT’s Main Complex off Henry Street, Port-of-Spain demanding their salaries.

CWU Secretary General John Julien said workers were paid their December salaries very early and were waiting to get their pay yesterday only to realise there was no money in their bank accounts.

In a statement, Scotiabank yesterday said a “technical error” occurred overnight which resulted in a delay of the processing of automatic salary payments to 2,109 employees of TSTT. Investigations are in progress to identify the cause of the technical error discovered yesterday morning and which appeared to be a cyber-glitch.

The Bank said it has employed full resources to rectify the error and accounts in Scotiabank, First Citizens, RBC Royal Bank, Republic Bank and Intercommercial Bank were expected to be credited by 4 pm yesterday. Scotiabank assured TSTT employees and its customers of its commitment to the timely processing of salaries and they apologised for the inconvenienced caused by the unforseen delay.
