Ronnie Mac Intosh for Power Soca

Sunday, January 26 2014

THE 1997 Soca Monarch champion Ronnie “Mack the Knife” McIntosh is back in competition.

The veteran performer who won the Soca Monarch title 17 years ago with the classic “Ent”, has thrown his hat in the 2014 Soca Monarch ring with a composition entitled “Bring Something”, manager Anselm Callendar told Sunday Newsday.

The song, written by Emmanuel Rudder and produced by Kit Israel out of Advocate Studio in Petit Valley: will be entered in the Power Soca category.

Defending champions are Machel Montano and SuperBlue (Austin Lyons).

Speaking with Sunday Newsday, Callendar said it is an exciting time for McIntosh who on February 1, will mark six years since his return to the stage.

“It’s all good and we are looking forward to great things happening,” said Callendar .

“Ronnie was encouraged last year by the youths when he was honoured in Soca Monarch. His performance went down well with the youths who weren’t even around when he used to be on stage.” Since that performance, Callendar said, the team had been considering entering the competition. Everything came together when they met Rudder, a young writer, who offered the song.

“The writer is young, the producer is young so it is young blood. All I can say is Mack is back.”

McIntosh also won the Soca Monarch title in 1995 with “On D Road.”

“Bring Something” will be released on the airwaves today.
