P/Town, Vos schools open today

Monday, February 3 2014

TWO schools in south Trinidad will resume classes today following repair work and a rat-baiting exercise.

Princes Town East Secondary School and Vos Government Primary School will reopen, both having been riddled with problems from the start of the new school term in January. When students and staff showed up on the first day of school at Princes Town East Secondary, the entrance was blocked by contractors who were conducting infrastructural works. There were also malfunctioning aircondition units.

At Vos Government, teachers there refused to work on January 13 because of problems with the building’s electrical system, a rat infestation, malfunctioning toilets and open drains. Teachers had returned the following Monday but then, the school’s administration was forced to dismiss classes due to a problem of a rat infestation.

Rat bait was placed in the school’s compound but when classes resumed two weeks ago, they continued to complain. Yesterday, a release from the Ministry of Education, stated classes at both schools will resume today.

The release stated malfunctioning air-conditioning units were repaired, the works having been completed over the weekend at Princes Town East Secondary. All outstanding electrical works, the release stated, will be completed soon at Vos Government.
