Man held for raping daughter

Monday, February 10 2014

POLICE have arrested a 49-year-old man yesterday who allegedly had sexual intercourse with his nine-year-old daughter multiple times in Rio Claro last November. The businessman of Ecclesville, Rio Claro was expected to be charged last evening by WPC Gadar with six counts of incest.

Once charged, the father will appear before a Rio Claro magistrate to answer the charges.

A police report stated that on Friday last while at her primary school in Rio Claro, the schoolgirl told her teacher about the incident. Officers of the Rio Claro Police Station were contacted and a medical report confirmed that the child had been sexually assaulted. The man was later arrested. After medical tests confirmed the child was assaulted, WPC Gadar was instructed to lay the incest charges.

In an unrelated incident, police from San Fernando and the Traffic Branch Unit charged 11 motorists over the weekend with drunk driving. The motorists, all men, were arrested on Saturday night in San Fernando where police conducted exercises. Police said the men exceeded the legal prescribed limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 mililitres of breath.

The men were taken to the San Fernando Police Station where police formally charged them with drinking under the influence of alcohol. The men were each granted own bail and ordered to appear in the Traffic Court, San Fernando, this morning to answer their respective charge.

Among the men arrested were a welder, an operator and a sales representative.

Insp De Boulet and Sgt Nanan spearheaded the exercises.
