Demas: Carnival not in jeopardy
Thursday, February 13 2014
CHAIRMAN of the National Carnival Commission (NCC)Alison Demas yesterday assured that Carnival 2014 is not under threat from the issuing, for the second year in a row, of a legal letter from a group known as the Trinidad and Tobago Copyright Collection Organisation. Commenting on reports that the NCC has been issued with a pre-action protocol letter in relation to the copyright of Carnival mas, Demas said, “Our attorneys have already responded to it. It was a similar threat they made last year.
“Back then, we asked them to provide particulars and say whom they represented and to meet. They are yet to do so.” Asked if Carnival 2014 could be under threat, based on this pre-action protocol letter from the group, Demas was quick and decisive in her reponse: “of course not!” In 2012, the TTCO threatened to take legal action against the NCC saying fees were due for copyright of “Works of Mas”.
