Kamla leaves tonight for China

Friday, February 21 2014

PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar did not leave for China yesterday as was initially planned. She will now depart Piarco International Airport tonight at 6.40 pm.

The Prime Minister and a large delegation will fly from TT on a British Airways commercial flight to Gatwick Airport in London, via one stop in St Lucia, Government sources told Newsday yesterday. She will be in London on Saturday.

Persad-Bissessar will then take a British Airways flight from London to Beijing, China where she has official engagements.

An OPM statement issued at 5.20 pm yesterday stated: “The Prime Minister was originally due to leave today (Thursday) but has opted to leave on Friday for the first visit by a TT Prime Minister to China in 30 years.”

The OPM statement concluded, “During her visit several agreements will be signed. Mrs Persad-Bissessar will also open the Trinidad and Tobago Embassy in Beijing on February 26.” Accompanying Persad-Bissessar will be Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine; Trade Minister Vasant Bharath and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Dookeran.
