Burnt 3-year-old boy recovering

By NALINEE SEELAL Friday, March 7 2014

A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy who fell into a pot of chicken which was being curried in the yard of his home on Carnival Sunday, remains hospitalised but his condition has been upgraded by doctors to stable.

He remains warded at the Paediatric Surgical Ward of the San Fernando General Hospital.

Medical sources revealed yesterday the boy’s condition is rapidly improving and his prognosis is for a full recovery.

Anxious relatives continued to remain at his bedside and doctors have given them the assurance that the burns suffered will heal in the coming days. “He is definitely going to be all right, because the burns were not as severe as was first thought,” a police source told Newsday.

The boy, Suresh Mansook, three, was at the home of relatives at St Ann’s Village, Mayaro on Carnival Sunday in company with five other children when while playing, he began walking backwards and fell into a pot of curried chicken which was being cooked on a ring stove.

The child who lives at Esmeralda Branch Road, Whiteland, San Fernando was at the home of his aunt Rajmatie Mansook, when at about 2.25 pm he fell into the pot.

Relatives who heard his screams, quickly pulled him out of the pot and covered him in water soaked towels.

He was rushed to the Mayaro Health Centre where he was treated and transferred to the SFGH.
