Tabaquite hero to be buried today

Friday, March 7 2014

Nicholas Seucharan, 26, of Tabaquite, who drowned at Mayaro Beach on Carnival Monday after he went to rescue two boys who had gotten into difficulties, is to be laid to rest today following a funeral service at his Allen Street home.

One of the boys was able to make it safely to shore while his brother was rescued with the assistance of other persons. Seucharan however drowned in the choppy waters.

His bereaved sister, Nisha Sahadeo, said the mother of the boy who was rescued telephoned her family and asked to attend the funeral service. Some members of her church are also expected at the service which is scheduled for 1 pm.

Seucharan , a mechanical technician of the Protection Department of the Electricity Commission at Mount Hope, was the only son of his parents and was due to be married in July.

At about 4 pm on Carnival Monday, Seucharan was at Mayaro Beach with his parents Kenny and Prematee Seucharan, his sister Nisha, his brother-in-law Luke Sahadeo, his fiancee and other relatives when he observed two boys having difficulty in the water.

He and two other men rushed to help the children but Seucharan was swept away in the rough seas. His brother-in-law eventually pulled him from the water but it was too late. A post-mortem performed yesterday at the Forensic Sciences Centre, in St James gave the cause as death by drowning.
