HAPPY BIRTHDAY: President Anthony Carmona celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday. ...

PRESIDENT Anthony Carmona yesterday quietly celebrated his 61st birthday spending time with his ailing father Dennis Stephen Carmona at his south western home. However, prior to paying a visit to his father, Carmona received birthday greetings from the President of China, his wife and the Chinese Ambassador to this country.

In a letter to Carmona, Chinese President Xi Jinping noted, “I would like to extend my warm congratulations and best wishes to you.” He further stated, “During the meeting with you last year, your passion on developing Trinidad and Tobago-China relations especially on pushing forward communication between the youths left a deep impression on me.

“I hope to work with you to further enhance the friendly and cooperative relationship of mutual benefit and development between our two countries. I wish you good health and every success,” Jinping wrote.

Carmona also received birthday greetings from Chinese Ambassador to TT Huang Xingyuan who in a letter wished to extend birthday greetings from Madame Peng Li Yuan, wife of President Xi Jinping.

“Best wishes to your wife, as madame Peng said to me more than once that she was grateful for the warm reception and kind arrangements by First Lady Reema Carmona when she visited Trinidad and Tobago,” Xingyuan wrote. The Ambassador also sent a hand-painted plaque for the President as a birthday gift.

Contacted yesterday, Information Specialist at President’s House Theron Boodan said President Carmona said he was genuinely touched by the sincere greetings of both their Excellencies and the Ambassador.

Boodan added that His Excellency then told him, “The greetings from the Chinese President, his wife, and the Ambassador made him feel very special.” He noted that His Excellency also said, “It was like a bolt of lightening filled with positive energies and sincerity from a land so far away.”
