Two Valencia vendors were shot and killed by gunmen yesterday morning while carrying out their trade at Valencia Old Road, Valencia.
Shot and killed were Narisa Phillip, 21, of Valencia Old Road and Triston Proudfoot, of Mark Trace, Valen-
They were both shot several times in the head and died instantly inside their vegetable stall.
A party of police officers led by Snr Supt Othniel Williams and including ASPs Neville “Toco Burroughs” Sankar, Aroon Ramkahelawan, Ag Insp Lutchman, Sgts Keith “Castro” Leon, Greaux, Transoco, Soopdale, PCs Ali, Mahabir, Police Photographer, Anwar Khan, Nanan, Buchoon, Mendoza, Charles, Williams and others responded to the call of the shooting.
They were later joined by officers from the Homicide Bureau.
Police found the two bodies lying in a pool of blood. Construction workers who were at a site nearby were also shot at by the gunmen. They escaped injury as they all laid low when the shooting began.
Eyewitnesses told police they heard loud explosions and saw a dark blue Matrix vehicle, with three occupants, speeding off.
Villagers, who only moments before purchased produce from the stall, said they were surprised that the two were shot.
One woman who said she went to the stall only five minutes before, said she would miss Phillip, who she described as “very friendly” and who would give her produce for free.
The woman also invited both Phillip and Proudfoot for lunch.
Police said the shooting could be drug related as Proudfoot was well known to them.
Investigators said Proudfoot was also shot sometime ago while he lived at Jacob Hill.
Autopsies on the bodies are expected to take place today.
Ag Insp Lutchman of Valencia Police Post is continuing enquiries.
