Sacha goes silent on Sharma

By MIRANDA LA ROSE Monday, April 21 2014

Sacha Singh, the ex-girlfriend of Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma who claimed that Sharma hit and pushed her down causing her to black out, has nothing to say about him taking part in a march against abuse.

“I have no comment on that. I didn’t know he was involved in a march against abuse. I don’t pay any attention to what he does and what he doesn’t do,” Singh told Newsday yesterday.

Sharma’s appointment as tourism minister was revoked less than three weeks ago after Singh alleged that the MP physically assaulted her during an altercation on March 12 in the Grand Bazaar car park, Valsayn.

Sharma joined persons in his community who carried posters calling for the end to violence and abuse in and around Fyzabad on Saturday. Singh had told Newsday that she could have dismissed the matter against Sharma, but said it could have been more serious as she could have died.

“It’s simply me standing up, taking a stance for every woman who doesn’t have the courage and the strength to stand up for themselves when being battered and abused,” she said.

Asked about the public’s reaction to her since she brought the charges against Sharma, Singh said, “No one has ever been hostile to me.

“It is just that they were taking my pictures and putting them all over the internet, but that is not being hostile.”

She goes about her business as usual, she said adding “The public response has been normal.”

The investigations into Sharma’s conduct against Singh is currently under investigation.
