SAD MOTHER: Nicole Manswell outside the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday where she awaited the report on the autopsy on her three-month-o...

AN AUTOPSY on the tiny body of three-month-old Akielah Gill who was found dead at her Sea Lots home on Friday revealed yesterday that she choked to death on her own vomit. The autopsy was carried out yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre by Pathologist Dr Hughvon des Vignes after the baby’s body was identified by her mother Nicole Manswell.

Police officers probing the death of the child have classified it as accidental. Funeral arrangements for the baby are yet to be finalised.

Baby Akielah was placed on a bed to sleep with her three other brothers aged 11, seven and two years sometime during the night of last Thursday by their mother who then went to run some errands. At about 4 am on Good Friday, Manswell went to check on the baby and noticed that she appeared to be lifeless with froth at the mouth.

The body was viewed by District Medical Officer Dr Robert Naidiki, and ordered to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy. Manswell and the child’s father were detained briefly by police for questioning and subsequently released.
