TT on Water Schedule

Wednesday, May 7 2014

CITING data supplied by the Meteorological Services of TT which revealed that this country has experienced below normal rainfall so far this year, the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) yesterday advised that temporary water supply schedules would be in place for both islands for the remainder of the dry season.

The Authority stated the introduction of temporary water supply schedules for parts of Trinidad and in Tobago, were as a result of below normal rainfall conditions for the Dry Season in the month of April, with a similar pattern forecast for May.

The temporary schedules will go into effect for Trinidad today and in Tobago schedules were introduced on April 13, WASA stated. The Authority noted that Director of Meteorological Services Marlon Noel explained that the below normal rainfall observed is in relation to long term averages over a 30-year period.

“According to Noel, Tobago is experiencing what is termed a ‘Dry Spell’ which began in March and has extended into May. A ‘dry spell’ represents consecutive periods of below average rainfall, which is deemed unusual or a deviation from the normal rainfall pattern, recorded for that particular time,” the utility added.

“As a result of the overall rainfall condition, production at several of the Authority’s surface water treatment facilities have been negatively affected. This situation has resulted in the need for greater management of supply to ensure availability for the duration of the Dry Season. Consumers must also practice water use efficiency habits,” WASA advised.

The Authority stated the temporary schedules would be published in the press from today and will be available on the Authority’s website: www.wasa.gov.tt and its Facebook Page: Facebook/ WASA Trinidad and Tobago.
