Daughter may not attend mother’s funeral

Tuesday, May 13 2014

THERE is doubt over whether 15-year-old Kimberly Mahangoo will be able to say a final farewell to her murdered mother Sherlene “Smallie” Mahangoo at a funeral service as the youngster remains warded at hospital in a serious condition.

Young Kimberly was shot moments after her mother was also gunned down at their Stony Hill, Tarodale, Tarouba, South Trinidad home last week Thursday — three days before Mother’s Day.

Kimberly was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where she received emergency treatment and remains warded. Relatives yesterday said they were not sure if Kimberly would be strong enough to leave her hospital bed to attend her mother’s funeral.

The suspect of Macaulay, Claxton Bay broke into Mahangoo’s home and shot the 37-year-old mother three times as she was walking out of her bedroom to see who had broken into the house.

The killer then shot and wounded Kimberly while a third relative in the house was left unharmed. Yesterday some of Kimberly’s schoolmates visited her at hospital. Kimberly had on an oxygen mask yesterday.

A relative said Kimberly continuously weeps for her mother. “I feel so sorry for this poor girl. Look at what this man has done to her,” cried a female relative who spoke to Newsday shortly after visiting hours ended.

The relative wishes Kimberly would be given permission by doctors to leave the hospital to attend her mother’s funeral set for sometime this week. Up to press time yesterday, the killer — whose identity is known to police — remains at large. Investigations are continuing.
