MURDERED: Sylvia Candice Douglas-Mohammed ...

RELATIVES of Sylvia Candice Douglas-Mohammed, who was found stabbed to death on Motherís Day in a bathroom in her Kelly Village home, have come together to counsel and support the victimís two children who remain deeply traumatised.

Douglas-Mohammed, 33, was found dead by her brother Prisons Officer Quentin Lyndon Baptiste when repeated efforts to contact her via telephone calls failed.

Relatives were trying to contact her as Douglas-Mohammed was supposed to join them in order to attend Sunday morning Mass.

An autopsy done at the Forensic Science Centre in St James on Monday confirmed that she died from shock and haemorrhage consisted with multiple stab wounds. A close male relative who was detained by police, following the murder, was subsequently released several hours later.

Speaking to Newsday yesterday, Douglas-Mohammedís sister Chemiene Baptiste said the children were told of their motherís murder on the day her body was found.

ďWe are all coping but the children still have their issues. All we can do is be there for them. This is a great shock for them but we are there to support and try and get them through this ordeal,Ē Baptiste said.

Up to press time yesterday no arrest has been made and investigations are continuing. The funeral service for Douglas-Mohammed will be held today at St Charles Roman Catholic Church in Tunapuna.
