Pray for protection of our children

Thursday, June 19 2014

Inter-Religious Organisation President Brother Harrypersad Maharaj and Roman Catholic Archbishop Joseph Harris are calling on the nation to pray for the protection of children, dismissing concerns that there is an “evil stalking the land”.

They called for positivity in light of the recent spate of child deaths, some due to crime, in the past few months.

Harris, speaking with Newsday yesterday, pointed to the evil of people and inequality as a cause for all these deaths.

“I really believe that all these things come from the evil within people’s hearts, the inequalities in the society is the root cause of what is going on,” he said.

“Until we get rid of these inequalities lot of what is happening is going to continue,” he added.

Harris called on people to pray for the nation’s children, especially with the level of crime. He noted that he will be speaking more on the issue during his Corpus Christi address at Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain today.

From February to June this year 17 children have died tragically in a variety of situations including from fires, drownings, murders and accidents. On Tuesday four-year-old Kimora Millette suffocated from smoke during a fire at her La Romaine home, leaving behind her twin sister Kiara.

Maharaj in his interview with Newsday also called for the country to continue to pray for the nation’s children and to keep their thoughts connected to the supreme being.

“Let us pray for the children of our nation. The innocent ones who need protection,” he said.

Maharaj, a Hindu, noted he does not believe there is a specific evil stalking the land and added that he does not “believe in those things”. He said regardless of what negatives there may be in the society it can be changed with positivity and prayer.

Although he too calls for prayer, General Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies (PAWI) Reverend Dr Pat Glasgow, warns the tragic child deaths may be due to Satanic blood pacts.

“We are concerned there seems to be a definite foul play or evil that is associated with that and we feel that it is possible that people may have or are making blood pacts with the devil or satanic forces so they require lives to be taken to satisfy their own ends,” he said.

He noted children were dying for “strange reasons” and at different times and seasons in the year we have “strange things happening”. He added that throughout church history it is a reality where people present other people as blood sacrifices.

“We (the PAWI) are making it a matter of prayer, it is a spiritual attack against the nation and especially the young people,” he said.

To the possible perpetrators of these evil pacts he urged them to be careful “because they have a way of boomeranging on the perpetrators of it”.

He said the best solution from the crisis is for people to turn to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
