FORMER coordinator of the Carapo leg of the defunct Life Sport Programme, Rajaee Ali yesterday said he is not pointing fingers at those who have labelled him and others in his Jamaat, as liars and thieves. Instead he is blaming himself and his jamaat followers.
Addressing a congregation in Carapo yesterday for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, Ali admitted that the Jamaat al Muslimeen’s Carapo mosque has been under scrutiny from Government and members of the public for sometime.
“Our jamaat has been under some scrutiny, some pressure from those who claim to be leaders in society. A lot of lies, fabrication and a lot of negativity have been pointing at our jamaat. When they lie about us we don’t point fingers at them and say they are liars...we blame ourselves because of our inability to propagate the truth about Islam.
“They believe that Muslims are fundamentalists and terrorists and it is because of our misconduct that these people have such misconceptions about us,” Ali said.
On Tuesday night last, Ali along with 17 other members of the Carapo mosque including his wife, were picked up by police and were released last Friday after being interrogated. No charges were laid. Some of the released persons are claiming victimisation and have threatened to take legal action against the state.
“When you see people speaking bad about Muslims, don’t blame them, blame yourself. It is ourselves who we have to blame. When you see women with no morals, don’t laugh at them, blame yourself. When you see a drug addict do not scorn him, do not feel pity for him. Feel pity for yourself. When you see murders happening in our country and no one knows why, it is our fault. I go in dua (a profound act of worship) and say, ‘Allah it is my fault’,” Ali said.
