Mayor: Corporation will care for D’Abadie/O’Meara

Thursday, August 7 2014

ARIMA Mayor George Hadeed has mandated the elected council of the Arima Borough Corporation to assume responsibilities for the D’Abadie/O’Meara constituency. Even before former MP Anil Roberts resigned as the elected representative of the constituency, Hadeed said in a release yesterday that the councillors and aldermen had increased their delivery of service to the area as a result of Roberts’ neglect.

At the council’s statutory meeting on July 31, Hadeed said that the council unanimously approved his statement, calling on Roberts to resign in light of controversies which impaired his ability to represent the constituency.

He recalled the objection by residents of Malabar to a judicial complex, being placed in their community and the intervention of the current council. After their issues were ignored by Roberts, Hadeed said, “only the intervention of the Mayor and the members of the council forced the Ministry of Justice to rethink its plans.”

Neither Roberts nor any member of the Congress of the People (COP) or the People’s Partnership Government, he said, attended any of the consultations held to deal with the judicial complex. The COP has appointed a caretaker representative in former deputy, Mayor Patricia Metivier.
