62-yr-old man a victim of a hit-and-run accident

By Rachael Espinet Tuesday, August 12 2014

A 62-year-old man from El Dorado was killed during a hit-and-run accident yesterday at about 11.45 am in Macoya.

According to the Police, Ovard Wellington a retired man from Brown Trace, El Dorado, was crossing the Priority Bus Route at Constantine Park in Macoya when he was struck by a vehicle. Wellington was flung off the road and landed on the grass. Police believe he was killed instantly.

The police have no leads on the hit-and-run. Officers from the Tunapuna Police Station are conducting the investigation. Members of the public have been encouraged to contact the Tunapuna Police Station with any information regarding the accident.

Newsday yesterday spoke to Wellington’s brother, Keith Wellington at their home in El Dorado. Keith said his brother left home early in the morning. He said he was not aware of where his brother was going, but said Wellington was riding his bicycle when he left home.

“He told me he was going out and he would be back late, so I should lock the door,” Keith said.

Keith said his brother usually leaves his home with his bicycle, parks the bicycle, and takes a maxi taxi into Port-of-Spain. A red and black bicycle was found chained to a post near the site of the accident.

Wellington, resided in the US for more than 30 years and had three children living abroad. He recently returned to Trinidad where he resided with his relatives.
