Two Filipinos detained after stabbing incident

Monday, August 18 2014

Two Filipino brothers, ages 25 and 27, remained in police custody yesterday following an altercation with another Filipino at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at about 2 am yesterday.

According to reports the three Filipinos who were hired by a company, Marble Renewal Ltd of Couva to do construction work at the Hyatt Hotel had an argument. One of the Filipinos, who is 23, picked up a wheel spanner and struck one of the brothers on the head. The victim then walked away and returned with a knife and stabbed the attacker in his chest. The second brother received minor injuries while holding down the first attacker.

Hyatt employees intervened and took the three men to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. The man who was stabbed, Romano De la Cruz, is currently in critical condition. The two brothers were treated and discharged and are currently being detained at the Port-of-Spain CID pending enquiries.
