PLOT TO BRING DOWN GOVERNMENT

The emails do not exist!

Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and his attorney Pamela Elder, SC, yesterday presented documentation to disprove alleged emails which implicated him, Prime Minister Kamla Persad- Bissessar, and then Local Government Minister, Chandresh Sharma in “high crime”, “misbehaviour in public office” and a massive cover-up.

The alleged emails were brought to the fore by Opposition leader Dr Keith Rowley on May 20 last year. Rowley claimed he had received the emails in his mail box and he presented them to the Parliament.

During a news conference at the AG’s Cabildo Chambers Office, St Vincent Street, yesterday, his other attorney, Christopher Sargeant of the ComputerLaw Group LLP, California, stated unequivocally via a Skype link that the purported emails, sent to Google for investigation, never existed. He has given notice that he intends to sue Rowley for defamation of character.

The allegation of a cover-up included spying on Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, a plot to harm and discredit a reporter and the payment of money in exchange for freedom by an unnamed person. The revelation of the purported emails followed the public outrage over the Section 34 scandal which had reached its height in October and November 2012.

Yesterday, Sargeant stated that Google said that none of the emails existed under the name anan@gmail.com

Ramlogan said he has used the email address anand@tstt.nett.tt for over 20 years.

“Those documents which were stated to be emails, and which were moved between certain accounts of the Attorney General and the Prime Minister, they do not exist. This is something we have been saying from day one,” said Elder who claimed it was a “diabolical, evil and wicked plot” against the AG.

Elder said the documents laid by Rowley were not authentic and did not emanate from the email account of the PM and / or the AG.

“We have been saying from day one that the proper thing to do was to go to the server. We have from Google that those documents that were passed off as emails do not exist. I would immediately be writing the acting Commissioner of Police, the Integrity Commission and the Director of Public Prosecutions to do all that is necessary to unearth the co-conspirators of this evil plot. “We do not know who they are, but what we do know is that there is a conspiracy of the most vicious nature, so to those miscreants the word ‘honour’ has no meaning,” Elder said.

Ramlogan said it has been a rough ride with Google over the past year.

“I can breathe a sigh of relief (at the end) of what has been a very trying time for me personally given the nature of the crime that was alleged to have occurred, including conspiring with the PM to murder a journalist and spy on the DPP.

“These things do not affect you personally, but the office that you hold and the international image and reputation of the country.

“This was a conspiracy to bring the Government down by using Parliamentary privilege.

“We have been put in the position of having to disprove our guilt rather than trying to prove our innocence,” he said

Ramlogan said it was not an easy battle with Google saying it was “a fight every step of the way”. He asked “Because they have tens of millions of subscribers, why should they concern themselves with TT?”

But the AG was not leaving it there. “It is my intention to sue Dr Rowley for malicious defamation of character and to advise the PM, (Works and Infrastructure Minister) Dr Suruj Rambachan, (Housing Minister) Dr Roodal Moonilal, (National Security Minister) Gary Griffith to consider whether they should not consider also taking the same action,” he said.

Ramlogan said this was the first time he had ever been accused of any criminal wrongdoing.

He said because Rowley made these statements on several occasions outside the House, he had lost all parliamentary privileges and that Rowley’s claims could amount to criminal libel that could lead to criminal prosecution as well.
