DEVOTION: Carib Queen Jennifer Cassar leads the procession to celebrate the Feast of Santa Rosa in Arima yesterday....
PARISH Priest of the Santa Rosa RC Church, Fr Ferdie Warner, called on all Christians to follow the examples of patron saint Santa Rosa De Lima.
At a Mass to celebrate the Feast of Santa Rosa yesterday, Warner said Rosa was someone who faithfully followed the teachings of Christ. He told those gathered that Rosa sold everything just to be in favour with God.
“She leads us in this challenge,” Warner said. “Does she inspire us to do the same?”
He said although Rosa spent a lot of her time with God, she also received people who were in need.
“She did things backed up by concrete examples. Actions speak volumes,” Warner said. He advised the congregation that they should make time to be quiet and spend some time with God also.
“The invitation today is to imitate Rosa. Do everything to be good and nothing else so we as Christians can also cultivate what Rosa had done.”
Warner said Rosa was the first among the people of the Americas to have been recognised as an outstanding model (icon) of holiness and discipleship.
“As such we decorate her statue in appreciation of her faithful life in gratitude to God and for all that she did to help people of her time, many of whom were native to the region.”
He said there is no reason for faithful Christian people to be ashamed of celebrating the patronal feast and there should be no reason to be embarrassed by walking in procession behind the statue of the patroness.
“We are proud of our faith in Christ and we are grateful that we have many models who can help us to follow Christ. Santa Rosa is one of them and is indeed our Arima model of faithfulness and discipleship.”
