New ACCA president visits TT

Sunday, June 4 2006

DENNIS YEATES, newly elected president of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) will visit Trinidad and Tobago from today. Also visiting are ACCA CEO, Allan Blewitt and Laurie Gillow, Head of International Corporate Development.

ACCA is the world’s largest and fastest-growing international accountancy body with 110,000 members and 260,000 students in over 170 countries.

It operates in some 24 Caribbean countries and its regional office is located in Trinidad.

Yeates, Deputy Director of Finance of the Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, is the first president from the health sector, which reflects ACCA’s growing strength in that area, with more than 2,000 members working as finance directors, chief executives and operations managers in health trusts and the wider sector both in the UK and internationally.

Following his election earlier this month, Yeates said, “I am honoured to become president and am particularly committed to representing the interests of all our members around the world.

“ACCA is an externally-facing organisation and our presence in so many countries gives us the chance to engage positively with governments and regulators.

“I am determined to play my full part in these efforts.” He added: “I also hope that our members in the health sector can take pride in my election.”
