Bandits beat up Tobago hotel owner

MARISSA WILLIAMS - Tobago Bureau Sunday, August 6 2006

Crown Point police are investigating an incident in which two men entered the Kariwak Village Hotel on Thursday evening and staged a hold-up.

According to reports, at about 8.30 pm the men, one armed with a pistol, entered the Store Bay hotel belonging to Director of Tobago Express Allan Clovis and demanded money, access to a vault and a gun from Clovis’ wife Cynthia, who was present at the time.

Cynthia offered the men money from her purse and claimed that was all the money she had.

The intruders became agitated and dealt her several blows about the body before tying her up in a bathroom where they turned on the hot water tap.

They proceeded to ransack the house in search of other valuables but subsequently escaped with $400 and US$100. Crown Point police are also investigating another robbery incident in the area that occurred on Friday night.

According to police reports, 61-year-old Swedish visitor, Ronald Ozlson, was attacked by a man in the vicinity of the Horsford Gas station on Milford Road.

The incident occurred about 9 pm when Ozlson, who was out on a stroll, was held by the neck by the man who began punching him and demanding money.

Ozlson handed $ 50 to his attacker who fled in some nearby bushes.

A senior police officer told Sunday Newsday that there was concern about the frequency in incidents of this nature occurring in the Crown Point area.

He assured that the police are working fervently to stem the rise and would be dealing with perpetrators very harshly.
