Cunupia victims died from multiple gunshot injuriesNALINEE SEELAL Tuesday, August 22 2006
Autopsies performed on the bodies of the four men shot dead in Cunupia on Friday night revealed that they died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The autopsies were performed by Government Forensic Pathologist Dr Eastlyn McDonald Borris.
Yesterday, relatives of the four victims gathered at the Forensic Science Centre to identify the bodies of Christopher Nelson, 48; Renald Eli, 46; Gerard Gibson 52; and Willard Cantaro Ravello, 23.
The four were gunned down by two masked men who were allegedly searching for a man at about 9.30 pm on Friday at Kernahan Trace, Cunupia.
Police sources said the killings may be linked to the recent murder of URP foreman, Bill Canning.
Canning, a father of 14, was shot dead two months ago outside his home at Kernahan Trace, Cunupia. Some of his associates vowed revenge for the killing.
Investigators believe the gunmen who killed the four men Friday were searching for the person they suspected of killing Canning.
Police Commissioner Trevor Paul has ordered more patrols in Cunupia in light of the killings.
At the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, relatives of the four victims called on the killers to put down their guns.
They said children have lost their fathers, and wives have lost their husbands. “We want peace and we want it now,” demanded the concerned relatives.
Police investigating the murders told Newsday they are working on several leads.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau are working closely with the United Kingdom officers to try to solve the murders.
On Saturday night, relatives of the four victims lit candles at the scene of the shooting.
