The scene of shooting death at Charford Court, Port-of-Spain. ...

A MEMBER of the G-Unit gang was shot and killed at Charford Court, Port-of-Spain, at about 10.45 am yesterday.

According to eyewitnesses, Dexter “Country” Hamlet, 33, was repairing a car near Building B, Charford Court, when he was shot several times by a gunman who then fled the scene. Hamlet was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Homicide officers led by Sgt Creighton Hudson visited the scene and are continuing inquiries.

Residents of Charford Court expressed horror over the shooting death. Jah David, an associate of the dead man told Sunday Newsday Hamlet was a peaceful person who spent his time repairing cars.

He said members of the G-Unit gang recently signed a peace truce to stop the bloodshed among warring gangs and he was saddened that his friend was killed in such violent circumstances. David claimed members of G-Unit had kept their promise to promote peace instead of violence. He blamed a known gang leader for yesterday’s murder. According to David, a few gang leaders are ignoring the peace pacts because they do not have love in their hearts for anyone. He said that he and a member of the G-Unit gang known as “Fresh” are now being targeted by the people responsible for Hamlet’s death.
