Cricket fans looking forward to a good time at the Trini Posse Stand for the 2007 World Cup tournament will have to have their fun at the Party Stand that has been set up by the Local Organizing Committee.

Dr Nigel Camacho, a key coordinator of the Trini Posse, a group of die-hard cricket fans known for having soca stars and flag-wavers providing entertainment at its stand at the Queen’s Park Oval, said the Party Stand has been set up in accordance with rules set out by the International Cricket Council.

But it is only for the tournament as the Party Stand, which the Trini Posse helped raise funds for, returns to the group’s control in 2008.

While fans won’t get to enjoy a fete-type atmosphere at the stand, a local DJ will provide entertainment.

“The Local Organising Committee will be running the Party Stand with minimal music for the games played here,” Camacho said.

As for the flag wavers, they’ll be there but there are some rules: The flags must be five feet by three feet in size and must not be offensive nor impinge on the rights of the ICC’s sponsors and partners. Coolers must be 12 by 12 by 12 inches in size. Camacho said cricket is a major source of entertainment for locals and Trinidadians have their own way of expressing themselves when it comes to “a good game”. The LOC has made several changes for the matches and “we will only have to wait and see how things unfold,” he added. Camacho said the Trini Posse has never been in trouble with umpires at previous matches for excessive noise.

“Compared to the Jamaican Red Stripers and the Barbados supporters of the Bajan Posse the Trini Posse Stand is no different,” he said.
