FOLLOWING ten days of protest action by students and parents of the Lengua Presbyterian Primary School, a letter was sent to Education Minister Esther Le Gendre highlighting their concerns and plight.

The letter to the Minister, a resident stated, warned that this Friday is the deadline for action by the Ministry or protests will be stepped up. The school’s PTA President Saudia Mohammed told Newsday the letter was hand delivered by Member of Parliament Nizam Baksh.

“If nothing is done after this letter, we will take action,” a resident said. The students and parents have been protesting in front of the abandoned Lengua Presbyterian School which was declared a hazard three years ago.

After the school was deemed unfit for occupation, the children were accommodated at the Inverness Presbyterian Primary School. Parents are now refusing to send their children to this school until they get answers on when the Lengua Presbyterian School will be rebuilt. Mohammed also said that the parents were assured by their MP that he will raise the matter in parliament.
