THE Barrackpore Improvement Group, for the second consecutive year, took to the streets in the district to sensitise people on school violence..

Following an Inter-Faith Service entitled ‘A Prayer for our Nation’ on Saturday, the group’s president, Kenneth Paulsingh, said that schools in the Lengua and Barrackpore districts do have problems as schools in the urban areas.

“There are so much things going on in the schools these days that we want to be prepared to deal with anything that can come our way. Paulsingh said that the march focused on interaction between student and parent, fostering neighbourly ties and remembering values and manners of old : “Good Morning,” “I am sorry,” “Excuse me.”

However, due to inclement weather, only four of the ten schools in the district of Barrackpore, participated in the march. Paulsingh said, “The march was successful despite the weather. The Naparima 1st Sea Scout Cadet Band led the children and parents through the streets.

The parade commenced at Papourie Road and ended at the Barrackpore Regional Complex, Manohar Maharaj Trace, where the children were addressed by those of different faiths.
