Getting in and out of Upper Moraldo Street, Maraval, is a worry by itself.

The road is unpaved with jagged pieces of pitch jutting out dangerously at different points making it risky for pedestrians who use it.

The residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said when it rains, there is mud all over and they have been pleading with their Member of Parliament Colm Imbert for years to repair the road and assist with the water problems in the area.

They claimed that Imbert sent two truck loads of pitch last year used to construct “a makeshift road for the vehicles to go up the hill.”

Several letters and visits to Imbert’s office by the residents have proven unsuccessful. “We are fed up of going to him over and over to have the road fixed and get water,” they said.

The residents said late last year a crew was sent to fix the road after it was dug up but left to work on another area.

“People crawling on their hands to get up that hill and our senior citizens have to hold on to neighbour’s walls to walk,” the frustrated residents said.

The upset residents said while people living in Paramin had water, they had to carry theirs up the hill in buckets. “Taxis not coming in the area and we have to pay $20 to get somebody to carry our groceries home.”

They claimed their shoes are taken off to walk up the muddy hill. “There’s fine gravel these young children have to walk on. The person giving out the contract to fix the roads cannot handle it. If I fall on the road, I will be suing Imbert’s office,” an upset resident said.

Newsday spoke to a clerk at the Diego Martin Regional Corporation who said the matter will be forwarded to Road Officer 3 Winston Regis. A clerk at the Imbert’s constituency office said she will forward the matter to the field officer and MP.
