CHAGUANAS Mayor Natasha Navas vowed to submit a “rescue plan” to Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner to save the jobs of 54 contract workers laid off on Tuesday by the Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC).

She said the borough, not the Mayor, at a meeting on Tuesday had decided not to renew the contracts of these workers, who include scores of littter wardens, due to inability to get funding from the Government.

Navas said, “The fact that these workers face the breadline is also very troubling and upsetting to the borough which must now take immediate steps to ensure that this displacement does not unduly affect their family life.”

She said the council is developing a “rescue plan” to save the workers’ jobs, and it would be sent for Warner’s input.

“The nature and scope of this plan shall be disclosed by the Mayor on Monday August 10 at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation.

“The future of the workers and their families must take precedence over any previous managerial incompetence at the Borough,” she concluded.
