Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner is not interested in the post of political leader of the United National Congress (UNC), but will instead focus his efforts on the chairmanship of the party.

Warner said on Monday, it was not true that he will be contesting the post of political leader of the UNC at the party’s internal elections in January.

Warner said his interest rested in the chairmanship, not the leadership of the party and cited his experience on both the local and international stage as the reason for his decision.

He said the best organisational skills were necessary for the party to successfully defeat the People’s National Movement in the next general election campaign and to lead the party when this happens.

Warner has been summoned to appear before party’s disciplinary committee to answer charges of bringing the party into disrepute.

He has accused the party’s executive of using an illegal disciplinary committee to try and expel him from the party.
