Warner: Bas took cheap shot at me

Monday, November 30 2009

CHAGUANAS West MP Jack Warner has described the latest attack by UNC political leader Basdeo Panday as a “cheap shot” which would not propel him (Panday) back to the reins of government.

Panday, speaking at a special national assembly meeting indirectly alleged that the Soca Warriors were still being owed monies by the same individual who had refused to account for millions of dollars donated to the Opposition party in the 2007 General Election.

Warner who did not attend yesterday’s national assembly, saying it was based on a flawed membership list, instead opted to engage in a walkabout throughout his sprawling constituency. He said he was “unfazed” by Panday’s personal attack toward him.

“It will be absurd to attend the party congress as it is an illegal congress as the membership list is flawed and that cheap shot that he (Panday) is trying will not work.

All his attempts at trying to discredit me will not get him back into power,” Warner said.

Warner, who was due to leave Trinidad and Tobago for South Africa last evening, had engaged in a two-day walkabout as part of his two-year anniversary celebrations as parliamentary representative.

Meanwhile, at the special assembly UNC general secretary Fazal Karim told supporters that the party presently consisted of 34,500 financial members.
