A SOUTH Oropouche couple will appear before a Siparia magistrate for possession of two firearms and 52 rounds of ammunition. The 30-year-old man and his wife, aged 38, were arrested and charged following a police raid at their Harris Village home on Saturday night.

The weapons were found hidden under a pillow in the couple’s bedroom. A team of police officers from the South Western Operations Division Task Force, acting on information, went to the couple’s home at about 7 pm. The team included Cpls Sookraj, Baptiste, Khan and Constables Gookool, Singh, Ramkissoon, Lewis and Shankar.

Upon searching one of the bedrooms, the officers found a Ruger 9ml pistol, magazine and 15 rounds of ammunition under a pillow.

A pump-action shotgun together with 12 cartridges and 25 rounds of ammunition was found hidden in a box under the bed.
