NEWLY appointed deputy San Fernando Mayor Sabrina Mowlah-Baksh yesterday said the southern city is starved for social entertainment and leisure activities. Mowlah-Baksh who was yesterday sworn in as an aldermen together with Theresa Johanna Andrews said that physical development of the city is very important.

Speaking following the swearing-in ceremony at the City Corporation’s chamber Mowlah-Baksh said major focus is needed to fill the void in a lack of social entertainment and leisure activities in the Southland. “As residents of the city where do we go to relax and socialise apart from the mall?” she asked.

“Where are the green parks to enjoy nature? I would like to support any initiative to promote those kind of activities.” Mowlah-Baksh who previously served as the councillor for Les Efforts said her agenda has not changed. “Since then I have put the city first and foremost and the welfare and well being of its citizens. As an alderman I am supposed to bring a certain level of expertise to the council,” she explained.

Mowlah-Baksh has 20 years experience in local government and holds a first degree in political science. She is pursuing a Masters degree in Gender Development at the University of the West Indies. Mowlah-Baksh who hails from Vistabella is a mother of two, including a 17-year-old son and a 20-year-old daughter, both of whom were also present during the ceremony.
