Ramasra, Khan clinch squash titles

RHEA KHAN captured her 15th Women’s Open title as the Bermudez-sponsored National Squash Championships ended at the Cascadia Courts, St Ann’s on Saturday night.

Khan, ranked number one in the group, halted the rise of top junior player Jessica Scott to take the final 11-5, 6-11, 11-5, 11-4.

Michelle Cornilliac, the second seed, won the third-place playoff 11-6, 11-6, 7-11, 11-2 over fourth seed Ingrid Lloyd.

Top ranked Colin Ramasra claimed his fourth Men’s Open crown following a come-from-behind 4-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-9 triumph over Ryan Abraham.

In the semis, Ramasra spanked Kale Wilson 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 while Abraham cruised past second seed Paul De Verteuil 11-8, 11-8, 11-4.

Number one seed John Holley copped the Men’s Veterans category, with a straight sets victory over Roger Salandy.

There were also special prizes which were presented to the following persons — the Jackson family (for the highest turn-out of family members), Duncan Smart (the leading sports personality of the event) and Jessica Scott (the Most Improved Player).

The Cascadia Courts will be the venue for the Junior National Championships, from May 29-31.

Semi-Finals: Travis Gopaul beat Duncan Smart 11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 10-12, 11-6; Chayse Macquan beat Luc Davis 11-4, 6-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8.

Final: Travis Gopaul beat Chayse Macquan 10-12, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9.
